Hi I need help on reclaiming my PPI on my car loan from 2001
My car loan PPI was around £42 a month for 5 years
Can I still claim this back as it was mis-sold and the original document / agreement had a preticked box to accept the PPI.
Any help would be grateful
Thanks

Hello and welcome
Yes you can if mis sold the PPI for any reasons you may have. You pursue whoever set up and sold you the account, so if this was arranged by the dealer you write to them (head office or complaints dept) because they were responsible.
Complete the reclaim questionnaire on step 3 below and save a copy for yourself, good luck.

Hi, have looked into my old car finance and have also been mis-sold PPI by GE Capital Woodchester. Currently working on who to send the SAR request to as GE got taken over and I can't figure out whether they are GE Money or Santander (the wonders of internet). Mine goes back to 2002 but am gonna give this a go. Paid £43 for 48 months and was definitely told by car salesman (of a firm which has since gone under!) that it was 'essential'. Keep me posted nigf71

Hi there
If this was set up and arranged by the dealer, you pursue them, even if you had the paperwork via GE who were the ones who lent you the money and taken the repayments.
If it was sold by GE, you would write to Santandar, these are dealing with GE complaints. Just make them aware you are complaining about GE (that if it was GE that sold and set up your account from the start).;)
A SAR is totally optional and just as long as you have the account number, you can continue to make the reclaiming complaint.
Hope this helps.

Hi Thanks for that : I have had a letter from Santander today as I tried to pursue them first they also stated I should pursue the dealer direct - however they hav gone bust - Caledonia Motor Group Newport Gwent so GE advised to track and pursued the underwriter insurance company as they underwrote the agreement.
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks

Hi after speaking to fos they advised that the underwriter was the best way to tackle this my underwriter was financial insurance company ltd so the fos have sent a letter onmy behalf today requesting they investigate and reimburse my £41 per month ppi
Lets wait and see what reply I get as they may not have been regulated in 2001

FOS seem to persistently argue that underwriters should be pursued in these circumstances but as far as I am aware, none have paid up unless the policy was sold by an employee of theirs.
FOS is unlikely to have jurisdiction over such cases.

I've had a reply from FOS saying I should contact GE Capital Woodchester in Belfast. Unfortunately I sent a SAR request to the exact address in Belfast (Greenwood House, Newforge Lane, Belfastm BT9 5NF) via Recorded Delivery in January this year and a few days later, it bounced back saying 'addressee gone away'. I have now informed FOS of this and they have advised me to pursue the underwriter! Who would this be? The car showroom people have gone bust and I have no address for GE Capital now? Any ideas? I am aware that time is conveniently ticking.... thanks!

I currently have the same problem where i was paying £30.33 for 60months on a car finance starting back in 2001. I also wrote to Santander and had the response of 'you need to take this up with the dealer'. Shocking!!
BUT, Only today after much searching through many years of documents i have come across the original GE Capital Care certificate of insurance. Stating on the front cover 'Arranged by GE Capital Woodchester, Apex 3 etc' and the Underwritten by London General Insurance company Limited and Combined Life Assurance Company Limited. Registered Address: Combined House, 15 wheatfield way, kingston upon thames, surrey, KT1 2PQ who by looking at the website still exist i was wondering if anyone has written to this underwriters address?
Im currently in the process now of scanning this 8 page insurance document to send it off with a ppi claim form to see what is said. -

They say they may be able to pursue the underwriter of the PPI.
It is you who will have to "pursue" the underwriter. FOS are just suggesting this avenue as a final possibility.
